Here is the "snail mail" address for the Dr Phil show - maybe if he gets enough mail about the JWs, he'll be more inclined to take a closer look at them and how they split families apart.

That is an excellent idea Scully.

Dr. Phil is just the (worldly) person to cut through their BS and possibly rescue even a hardcore JW (or more). WT is extremely skilled at distracting language and are masters of subterfuge. Dr. Phil is keenly aware of this type of behavior and deals with it extremely efficiently.

Honest in little, Dishonest in much?

ok first off i dont' want this to be a wbts slam session there's plenty of those already this is about individual witlesses!.

i was talking to a friend who is a business owner (hotel industry) he isn't a witness he doesn't know i used to be a witness.

i just casually asked him about all the watchtower and awake's in the magazine rack.

I think the distinction here is not so much the slave versus master because in this case the business owner is merely a contractor. He is the slave to the one who is contracting him.

Based on my observations of JWs who would lie, steal or cheat it was usually more a matter of two criteria:

1. Does it hurt the Watchtower or it's image

2. Can I get away with it.

I personally knew several witnesses who if confronted with the money on the ground scenario would turn it in but in other scenarios like padding a bill, charging for work not done or lying to potential converts it wouldn't phase them. In the money on the ground scenario they would always be concerned that they could be seen picking it up or alternatively someone had placed it there to catch them stealing. Bill padding, charging for work not done and other cheats/lies are deemed easy to get away with. I have always found this distinction to be the determining factor but htis is also true of many people. To quote Michael Jackson it's a smooth criminal.

Well I think you will find honesty and dishonesty in all walks of life. Jehovah's Witnesses don't hold exclusive ownership to either of those two things (although they are heavy on the propoganda trying to claim they do - which is utter nonsense).

As far as having personal comments on this matter, I don't really. They are your friends experiences and not mine but they do sound reasonable for the reason I already mentioned in my first sentence. Also it is reasonable because I have personally met many dishonest Jehovah's Witnesses. Sometimes they were being dishonest for finanacial gain, sometimes for legal advantage, sometimes to protect the image of the Watchtower and sometimes to their spouse on little things in order to get out of chores etc. Sometimes they would be dishonest with people to convert them or to guilt them into coming back to the cult.

In other words I found many JWs that I encountered to be dishonest and for a variety of reasons. This is true in regular society although with the JWs, many (but certainly not all) of the motives would be unique.

one merely needs to look at the filth and scum they spread about those who do not agree with them to find such self-condemning words.

then, simply substitute themselves for their enemies and see how true their own words ring.

I would change away from the victim to away from family.

as a british family our favorite food is curry, but lately this has got out of hand, were eating about 3 a week .

either home made or takeaway.

when the kids were small i would always make a dinner with meat and veg, but now its gone ridiculous we are addicted.. i hate thinking about what im going to make for the evening meal, its so boring.

Also the WTS has tried to force new speak on JWs. Prefering to be called the brach instead of the society on more formal situations

Interesting comment XQ and do you know why they are trying to force this recently?

My guess is to remove themselves from legal liability from all the lawsuits facing the courts right now. I suspect they will now try and argue that the elders and congregations were acting on their own and (possibly) against WT policy regarding sexual abuse. This way when the hammer falls it will only fall on individual congregations. It looks to me like they think they can get all the JWs to run around saying: There is no HQ or leadership just another independant branch in Brooklyn; there are no official policies and directives handed down to congregations on major issues; congregations make up their own individual religious policies....in other words sing the new company line. My guess is this would be designed to try and create a new (false) image for the public and the courts in order to avoid responsibility and potential legal liability for their actions.

I also notice that you mentioned the elders are now tightening the control reigns with their attitude of "You're either with us or against us". It sounds to me like they want to make sure that there is absolutely no doubt that the only ones left will sing the new company line when the time comes. It sounds to me like they don't want any surprises from a brother or a sister with a conscience when talking to the public or authorities (or testifying in court). Rather, they want only those who will stick hard and fast to the "Theocratic Warfare" policy of lying to protect the ~~cult~~ WT.

Editorial Reviews Synopsis Since the end of World War II, leaders of the Jehovah's Witness movement in both Germany and elsewhere have steadfastly argued that Witnesses were united in their opposition to Nazism and did not collude with the Third Reich. Documents have been uncovered, however, that prove otherwise. Using materials from Witness archives, the U.S. State Department, Nazi files, and other sources, M. James Penton demonstrates that while many ordinary German Witnesses were brave in their opposition to Nazism, their leaders were quite prepared to support the Hitler government. Penton begins his study with a close reading of the "Declaration of Facts" released by the Witnesses at a Berlin convention in June 1933. Witness leaders have called the document a protest against Nazi persecution, however closer examination shows it contained bitter attacks on Great Britain and the United States - jointly referred to as "the greatest and most oppressive empire on earth" - the League of Nations, big business, and above all, Jews, who are referred to as "the representatives of Satan the Devil." Sorry about the double posting but the formatting was acting wierd on me I must have pressed something.

To continue:

So in actuality they do not have a controlling interest in that particular fund. As well they are only holding a couple hundred million in that fund. There are however thousands of funds and well over one hundred money market funds. WT could very well be holding interests in other funds and probably are in keeping with the rule of thumb of diversification.

I wonder who receives any "trailer fees" from all of their massive holdings? but that is another thread topic.

I also wonder about their choice of a J.P Morgan fund. In and of itself it does not mean anything however often corporations will select and use a banker for multiple roles and purposes. I wonder if there may be a deeper relationship beyond the ownership of the funds. My impression of J.P. Morgan is that they are the banker of choice for U.S. companies/entities/individuals who wish to do business in Europe as well and also wish to be very discreet.....but this too would be a topic for another thread.

Excellent investigative work Gerard except one minor error:

You highlighted the wrong section as it does not apply to the WT in this particular fund.

If you look closely you will see that they only own 7.337 percent of the outstanding shares of that

fund. This does not qualify as a "control position".

If you look carefully you will notice that the fund lists persons (or entitities) that own 5 percent

orm more. The reason for this is because it is in keeping with the "early warning" requirements in

the regulated securities business. By giving this "early warning" shareholders are and insiders are

able to get an idea if there is a large accumulation of ownership. This is meant to give an early

warning to a potential takeover bid (which is highly unlikely where a money market fund is concerned.
